Responsa Mahari Tzahalon

First Edition Venice, 1694

296 shailos and teshuvos upon the 4 sections of the Tur by the Rav Hamusmach Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahalon, who numbered among the illustrious talmidim of the Beis Yosef and Mabit .

Shu”t Maharitatz is a fundamental sefer of shailos and teshuvos, many of which are cited by the Poskim until this very day.

One of the most unusual features of this sefer is its large and impressive illustrations which are particularly rare for a sefer of shailos and teshuvos. This edition of Shu”t Maharitatz features drawings of the Mishkan, Beis Hamikdash and sacred vessels which were intended to enhance the appearance of the sefer and attract buyers!

Complete copy, including [5] index pages that are missing from the vast majority of extant copies. (In this sefer, the index is bound to its front.)

Aside from the great halachic import of a sefer of this sort, its unique content, and the wealth of historical information that it contains, Shu”t Maharitatz also encompasses teshuvos written by a variety of Gedolim of his era, among them Maharam Galanti and Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto (the first).

Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahalon (1559-1619) was one of the great sages in Eretz Yisrael of the 16th century and one of seven Rabbanim privileged to receive semichah from Mahari Beirav. In his later years, he stood at the helm of the acclaimed yeshivah in Tzfas. His other sefer Lekach Tov (Tzfas, 1577) is famous as the very first sefer published in Eretz Yisrael.
