Zayis Raanan is the premier commentary on Midrash Yalkut Shimoni. The most prevalent edition of the Yalkut (Warsaw Press) encompasses only an abridged version of this important composition, yet the present first edition copy contains this important commentary in its entirety.
The sefer opens with a pamphlet of sermons excerpted from the Magen Avraham’s sefer Shemen Sasson al HaTorah.
The Magen Avraham, Rabbi Avraham Abele Gombiner (circa 1637-1683) was born in the city of Gombin, Poland, and served as Dayan in Kalish. He is called after his monumental work the Magen Avraham, which is one of the fundamental commentaries on Orach Chaim. He passed away before the age of fifty.
