Rare Letter Signed by Rabbi Moshe Panet of Da’ash
Not much is known about the Rebbe’s life and this letter provides new details.
In the letter, the Rebbe asks for assistance in marrying off the daughter of his brother, Rabbi Yechezkel Yosef, who died at a young age in 1873, and warmly blesses those who assist:
"And they shall bear a blessing from the Master of the World, and have much-increased success." It concludes with his full handwritten signature: "HaKadosh Moshe Panet BeHaRav HaKadosh MiPeh."
It is stamped with an early stamp of his in which his father, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Panet of Da’ash, is mentioned (unlike his later stamp).
Rabbi Moshe Panet, Av Beis Din of Da’ash (1843-1903), was a tzaddik and miracle worker, the son and successor of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Da’ash. He was sent to the community of Karlsburg, where the Rebbe Baal ‘Mareh Yechezkel’ was a Rav in the past.
From 1885 he served as Rav and Admor in Da’ash, and thousands accepted his authority. He studied chassidus from Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. Rabbi Avraham Yehoshuah of Năsăud declared that he possessed Ruach HaKodesh. (Nachalas Tzvi, Vol. 5, p. 122)
(Rabbi Yechezkel Yosef had two sons-in-law: Rabbi Alter Shiber, a dayan in Tsherovitz and Rabbi Naftali Wurtzberger, dayan in Horna. It is difficult to determine which one of them this letter is about.)
Da’ash, c. 1890.
