Sefer Evronos. Work on Astronomy
Frankfurt d’Oder, 1691
Rare Edition with Unique Parchment Binding from Megillas Esther
A Jewish work on astronomy by Rabbi Avraham Bellin Ashkenazi presenting methods and principles for creating a Jewish calendar and calculating the tekufos and molados.
The sefer contains a variety of illustrations, charts, and one page with 4 astrological wheels. The final pages contain charts with the Gregorian calendar based on the solar year.
Rare, unusual binding fashioned from a sheet of parchment taken from a Megillas Esther. The use of sifrei kodesh to bind books stirred a sharp halachic discussion and controversy among the Poskim of the era (see Yosef Ometz, Frankfurt am Main, 1623).

“Rabbi Yonasan said: From where do we know that it is a mitzvah for man to calculate the tekufos and mazalos? It is written, ‘And you shall safeguard and do, for this is your
knowledge and your wisdom in the eyes of the nations.’” (Shabbos 75a)
