Igeres Mesaperes – A Unique Historical Work on Kevarim of Tzaddikim in Eretz Yisrael, with a Tefillah.
Mantua, 1776
This rare work provides us with a list of the kevarim of the tzaddikim of Eretz Yisrael: The kevarim of the forefathers of the nation, the Tanai’im, the Amoraim and other tzaddikim buried in Eretz Yisrael.
The sefer starts with, "A tefillah to pray at the graves of the righteous."
Those living outside of Eretz Yisrael were eager to know about the kevarim of the tzaddikim and their resting places in the Holy Land, so the emissaries of Eretz Yisrael who came to Europe would print descriptions of these holy places.
These sefarim are an important historical source and quickly became very valuable.
Among the places and landmarks mentioned are the sites of the Beis HaMikdash and the Kosel in Yerushalayim, the kever of the Rashbi in Meron, the kevarim of the Beis Yosef, the Ramak and the Arizal in Tzfas, and many more.
It was printed by the sage Rabbi Yosef Shalit Riqueti of Tzfas, who printed an interesting treatise on the work of the Mishkan in the same place and time.
