Letter of greetings written and autographed by Rabbi Yosef Klein-Tchaba, Raavad of Serdahel and author of ‘Ahavas Tzion’.
Rabbi Yosef Klein-Tchaba, Raavad of Serdahel (d.1897), was a dayan in Serdahel during the era of the Mahari Asad (Shu”t Maharia’a Orach Chaim Ch. 31), and Raavad in the time of his son Rabbi Aharon Shmuel Asad. He headed the yeshivah in Serdahel where he taught Torah to his students. Shem HaGedolim Hachadash’ refers to him as a “Rav Gadol Tzadik Tamim U’mefursam" – a great and righteous Rav, upright and well-known.
Rabbi Yosef Klein-Tchaba’s works include: 4 volumes of ‘Ahavas Tzion’ on Shas (1882-1933/4), ‘Divrei Yosef’ on Torah (1893) and ‘Divrei Yosef’ on the Pesach Hagaddah (1932/3).
The letter concerns the recipient’s stepson who was learning in the yeshivah of Serdahel and ate in Rabbi Yosef’s home once a week. It mentions that Rabbi Aharon Shmuel Asad told Rabbi Yosef, "The bachur learns with hasmadah.”
