Tractates Avadim & Kutim First Editions Printed by the Chida, Livorno [1805]
Sefer Mar’is Ha’ayin, a commentary on agados of the Shas in the Ein Yaakov, by Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai – the Chid”a.
The Chida printed here Maseches Kutim and Maseches Avadim, the first time these masechtos were ever printed.
These tractates are part of the masechtos ketanos, but because they were hardly studied, they were almost forgotten.
After this printing, they were added to Shas Zhitomir and later to Shas Vilna, and since then they have been printed togetehr with the Shas of Talmud Bavli.
This is the last of the Chida’s printed sefarim (printed when he was about 81-years-old), concluding a long series of important works in all Torah fields.In the sefer.
The Chida and Chassidut : i
n this sefer the Chida brings explanations from the early Chassidich leaders, the Maggid of Mezritch and the Toldos Yaakov Yosef.
The Chida was held in high esteem by the talmidei Baal Shem Tov, and the Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk said about him:
"In Italy there is one great tzaddik who, with his pure sefarim, eliminates all the books of hypocrisy. If only the Jews would delve in his sefarim, and then nothing will budge them from their faith" (Ohel Elimelech, page 57b, 281).
Chassidich works were first printed in 1780, only 25 years before the printing of this sefer. This is therefore one of the earliest sefarim citing Chassidich teachings!

Bohush-Shtefnesht provenance: On the title page and the following page appear the stamps of the Rebbe, Rav Avraham Yehoshua Heshil Friedman of Adjud (1858-1940), son of Rav Yitzchak of Bohush; son-in-law of Rav Menachem Nachum of Shtefnesht; and brother-in-law of Rav Avraham Mattisyahu of Shtefnesht. He was famed as a holy person, and many flocked to him for his brachos and yeshuos.
