A Wonderful Essay in Rav Shamshon Raphael Hirsh’s Handwriting.
Two long pages from an essay in German (with words in Hebrew) in the handwriting of Rav Shamshon Raphael Hirsch (1808-1889).
In this essay, Rav Hirsh explains the colors of the Mishkan’s cedar wood and the colors of the coverings, and what they mean in Yidishkeit:
“Blue symbols our limited sight, the world beyond our sight, the Divine realm. Therefore the blue-colored string on one’s garment is the color that represents our understanding of Godliness; the color of Hashem’s covenant with man, the symbol of Godliness unites with the pure person, totally fills him and determines every feature of life…”
