Guidance to youth on topics of emunah and proper conduct

Lekach Tov contains short, concise statements summarizing the foundations of Judaism, faith, mussar and proper conduct by the Italian sage Rabbi Avraham Yagel of Monselice. This sefer, a rare work written to the generation’s youth, is written in the unusual style of a riveting conversation between rabbi and pupil, with the rabbi posing the questions, and the pupil replying with impressive knowledge, fluency and erudition.

In his foreword, the author notes that he specifically wrote this sefer for the generation’s youth “so that this brief composition should be fluent in the mouths of children…The wise man shall hear and add wisdom, to place it before the children …”

This is a rare, fascinating sefer!

Chacham Avraham Yagel (Galiko) of Monselice was an Italian sage and doctor renowned for his genius in Torah and kabbalah. The Rema of Pano refers to him as “fluent in all wisdoms” (Asara Maamaros, Maamar Nanefesh C. 29). Rabbi Avraham authored several noted works, among them Moshia Chosim (Venice, 1587) which includes entreaties to ward off plague, and the present Lekach Tov (Venice, 1595) upon topics of emunah and proper conduct for youth. He is most famous for his Gei Chezion which includes a wealth of historical information.
