She’eilos U’Teshuvos Yachin U’Boaz by the Grandsons of the Tashbetz. Livorno, 1782. First Edition
She’eilos U’Teshuvos by the brothers Rabbi Tzemach and Rabbi Shimon Duran, sons of Rabbi Shlomo Duran (the Rashbash), son of the Tashbetz.
It was brought to print by the mekubal Rabbi Avraham Tuviana of Algiers, author of Siddur Chesed L’Avraham.
The Duran family produced the greatest rabbanim of Algiers. The family patriarch was the Tashbetz who fled Spain due to harsh decrees in Algiers. After him, his son the Rashbash filled his position, and after him, the Rashbash’s son Rabbi Tzemach Duran, who filled his father’s position in Algiers from 1467.
The teshuvos of Rabbi Shimon, the younger brother of Rabbi Tzemach, were cited by Rabbi Yosef Karo in his sefer ‘Beis Yosef’.
The first part of the sefer (until page 65b) contains one hundred and fifty teshuvos from Rabbi Tzemach Duran and from there onward (until page 89a) there are fifty-seven teshuvos from his brother Rabbi Shimon Duran.
From page 90a is the sefer ‘Zera Rav’ – drashos by Rabbi Masoud ben Ganon, a mekubal and miracle-worker who merited the revelation of Eliyahu HaNavi.
It includes a long haskama from the Chida, and haskamos from the chachamim of Livorno, Algiers and Tunis and descendants of the Tashbetz.
