Sefer Yesod: Machaneh Ephraim.
First Edition. Constantinople, 1738
Chiddushim, halachic queries and responsa on Mishneh Torah of the Rambam by Rabbi Ephraim Navon, one of the greatest rabbis in Eretz Yisrael and later in Constantinople.
Machaneh Ephraim numbers among the most important works of scholarly Jewish literature and was enthusiastically received and studied extensively both in Ashkenazic and Sephardic communities throughout the Diaspora and in Litvish yeshivas. It is considered one of the essential works on the Rambam.
Rabbi Ephraim Navon (1677-1735), author of Machaneh Ephraim, was a brilliant scholar and dayan in the beis din of Baal ‘Mishneh LaMelech’ in Constantinople. In the haskamah to the Zolkva edition, the Chasam Sofer writes, “His name is mentioned throughout all the sefarim of the sages of Sephard, the great Acharonim.”
The Chida in Shem HaGedolim declares, “His comprehensive knowledge and proficiency are evident from his great work, and we have heard wonderful things about his Torah, brilliance, and piety.”
