Sefer Yesod: Chidushei HaRan on Maseches Shavuos
First Edition, Printed within Responsa Maharam Galanti
She’eilos U’Teshuvos and Psakim by the Musmach HaRav Moshe Galanti HaZakein, Av Beis Din of Tzfas, a primary talmid of the Beis Yosef.
Later in the sefer, two fundamental commentaries from the Rishonim were printed for the first time from manuscripts. They are studied to this day in all Batei Midrash:
*
The Ran’s Shittos on Maseches Shavuos (pages 103b-127)
*
The Ritva’s Chiddushim on part of Perek Aleph of Maseches Bava Metzia (pages 178-192). Some attribute this to a different author. (See "Shem HaGedolim", Maareches Gedolim under Ritva.)
Rabbi Moshe Galanti HaRishon (niftar later than 1612) was among the greatest poskim of Eretz Yisroel. He received semicha from his Rebbi, Rabbeinu Yosef Karo at age 22, and from the year 1580, served as Av Beis Din of Tzfas.
Hundreds and thousands of his descendants served in rabbinical positions, including the Galanti, Chagiz and Meyuchas families, among others.
