Sefer Yesod: Turei Even by the Shaagas Aryeh.
First Edition, Metz, 1781
Sharp, fundamental commentary and halachic discussions on 3 masechtos: Rosh Hashanah, Chagigah and Megillah by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Ginzburg, author of Shaagas Aryeh.
The printing of this sefer transformed it into a vital work in the Jewish library that is frequently used and referenced by learners who engage in these masechtos.
Turei Even was one of two sefarim personally printed by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Ginzburg during his own lifetime, and until this very day, they exemplify the concept of developing lamdanus: Shaagas Aryeh (Frankfurt, 1757) and the present Turei Even (Metz, 1781).
In this sefer, the author discusses topics that relate to the halachos drawn from these masechtos and breaks them down into practical halachah. In doing so, he mentions and cites many Poskim who dealt with these topics.
When referencing Rabbi Aryeh Leib Ginzburg, the Chofetz Chaim prefaces his words with praises of the Shaagas Aryeh: “Our great rabbi, minister of Torah, genius of geniuses, the lion of Dvei Ilai, luminary of Yisrael and author of Shaagas Aryeh…”
Rabbi Aryeh Leib Ginzburg (1695-1785) was one of the great geniuses and Torah luminaries in recent centuries. The Vilna Gaon attested that he could “arrange the full content of Shas in a single hour of his mind”. (Aliyos Eliyahu Comment #16)
His written legacy includes his sefarim Shaagas Aryeh; Turei Even (on Rosh Hashanah, Chagigah and Megillah); and Gevuras Ari (on Taanis, Yuma , Maakkos).
