An Interesting Handwritten Letter from the Holy ‘Damesek Eliezer’ of Vizhnitz. Eretz Yisrael, 1944
The letter contains a warm recommendation concerning adding a certain activist to Agudas Yisrael. The Rebbe writes about him: "May the likes of him increase; a G-d fearing and intelligent man, his opinions are like ours."
At the end, he signs: "אליעזר בהרה"צ מוהר"י זצללה"ה"
The letter is from 1944, when the Holocaust was still raging. Only a few months earlier the Rebbe had managed to escape from Europe to Eretz Yisrael.
The ‘Damesek Eliezer’ (1891-1946), son of the Rebbe Baal ‘Ahavas Yisrael’ of Vizhnitz, was ordained as rabbi by the Marsham of Brezhan together with his brother the ‘Imrei Chaim’. He was appointed Av Beis Din of Vizhnitz and in 1923 founded there a well-known yeshiva. He miraculously succeeded in immigrating to Eretz Yisrael in 1944 and began to rebuild the Vizhnitz chassidus and to work to save the rest of Europe’s Jews. After his passing, his younger brother the ‘Imrei Chaim’ was appointed as Rebbe.
The letter was printed and photographed in the sefer ‘Baal Damesek Eliezer’ (Bnei Brak, 1983), p. 256.
The aforementioned activist is Dr. Chaim Weissman, who is close to Agudas Yisrael circles. He translated the memoirs of Rabbi Yaakov Rosenheim, from German to Hebrew.

The entire letter is handwritten and signed by the Rebbe.
