Masorot – Venice 1607 – First and Only Edition.

A rare and interesting book. Commentary on the Masorot in the style of homiletic interpretation by an unknown author.

Masorot is an ancient list that lists all identical words found in the Tanac"h. Mefarshim and Darshanim found allusions connecting these identical words through homiletic interpretation – and this is the content of the book, to find connections between these verses through Drush.

Brought to print by Rabbi Yosef son of Shmuel ben Rey, and some believe he is the author (see Otzar HaSefarim by Ben Yaakov, letter Mem, no. 1582)

Rabbi Yosef Rey (d. 5367) was one of Chachmei Salonika. During his journey to Safed, he passed through Venice and was appointed there as Rosh Yeshiva. He passed away shortly after the printing of this sefer.  An interesting question about his funeral procession on the second day of Yom Tov – was printed in Responsa Devar Shmuel (Aboab) chapter 56.

Venice 1607 Only Edition, never reprinted. Page count: 20 leaves. Size: 20 cm. Good condition, new binding. rare.

In the margins of the book, corrections and additional explanations in beautiful handwriting by Rabbi Zechariah David Shabbetai Segre – one of the sages of Italy, a distinguished student of Rabbi Yitzchak Berakhiah Sangvinetti, Av Beit Din of Vercelli (a student of the author of ‘Zera Shimshon’). Several books of his teacher’s teachings copied by him, are found in the library of the Admor of Karlin shlita, and in the Ben Zvi Library, as well as his compositions and annotations on books in various archives. (The writer’s identity is based on the handwriting style, which is identical to his handwriting)
