Beurim on the Taryag Mitzvot of the Torah by Rabbi Eliezer of Metz, one of the great Ba’alei Tosafot.

A fundamental book of Jewish law, which is cited in the books of the great Rishonim: Maharam of Rothenburg, Mordechai, Hagahot Maimoniyot, Recanati, and others.

The author was a talmid of Rabbeinu Tam and is frequently cited in the Tosafot on the Talmud. Among his greatest students were the Raviah and the author of the Rokeach.

The structure of the book is unique, it divides all Taryag Mitzvot (according to the Ba’al Halachot Gedolot) into ‘Amudim’ [piiliars] such as the ‘Foods’ pillar in which it discusses the laws of forbidden foods, the ‘Times’ pillar for the laws of the festivals, the ‘Laws’ pillar for the laws of Choshen Mishpat, and so on.

In his introduction, he explains the name of his book ‘Yere’im’ (Fearful Ones) – because from it people will learn to fear God.
