A Letter of Torah Insights by Rabbi Wolf Hamburg, The Leading Rosh Yeshiva in Fürth – 1843
A long letter, approximately 25 lines, from the great scholar Rabbi Wolf Hamburg of Fürth, Chief Rabbi and head of the "High Yeshiva" in Fürth – the largest and most important yeshiva in Western Europe.
The letter contains Torah insights on the laws of Korbonos and Nesachim. It begins with: "Regarding the Torah ideas I wrote – the Kushia is Atzuma, but it can be resolved according to the words of Tosafot…"
At the end, it is signed: "Your friend, the small one, Avraham Wolf of Hamburg, z"l."
Letters from him in his later years are rare, as writing was difficult for him, as he himself notes at the end of the letter.
Rabbi Abraham Benjamin Wolf Hamburg of Fürth, author of ‘Shaar HaZekenim’ (1770-1850), a remnant of the generation of scholars alongside Noda BeYehuda, Rabbi Nathan Adler and the Hafla’ah, he was the head of the prestigious yeshiva in Fürth and educated many students who spread throughout Germany, including the Aruch LaNer and Rabbi Y.D. Bamberger. "He was the genius of the generation, a righteous pillar of the world, standing firm against the destroyers [the Enlighteners] and dedicated his soul to the Torah" ( eulogy by the ‘Ksav sofer’).
The letter was sent to "my wonderful Talmid Muflag" – Rabbi Gabriel Naphtali Hirsch Lipman, Ab"d of Aurich and Kissing, who merited to publish many works from the writings of Ibn Ezra, with the blessing of his teacher ..
