Chabad of Chevron: Letter from Chabad Rabbis to Sir Moses Montefiore – Chevron 1857
A letter from the heads of Chevron’s Chabad community to Sir Moses Montefiore, thanking him for delivering to them the inheritance of the rich R’ Levi Zalmans, for the upkeep of the community.
The letter is signed by
Rabbi Yaakov Slanim, son-in-law of Rabbi Dovber of Lubavitch, The Mittele Rebbe. Rav Yaakov’s wife, Menuchah Rachel Schneersohn, was called “the mother of the Jewish community in Chevron.”
The letter is also signed by the Chabad community’s Rav, Rabbi Shimon Menasheh Cheikin Ab"d of Chevron.
At the bottom of the letter is a separate message to Montefiore’s secretary, Dr. Eliezer Levy, also signed by the two Rabbanim.
Both letters are handwritten by Rabbi Shimon Menashe Cheikin.
