Rosh Mor Dror on the Torah
First Edition. Venice, 1615
Sefer ‘Rosh Mor Dror’ containing 56 drashos on the Chamisha Chumshei Torah.
Authored by Rabbi Mordechai HaKohen Ashkenazi of Tzfas and Damascus, son-in-law of the ‘Ba’al HaKeilim’ Rabbi Shmuel Laniado.
At the beginning of each drasha, a section from Midrash Rabbah relevant to the Torah portion is printed, followed by the main drasha dealing with that subject.
A rare sefer.
Rabbi Mordechai HaKohen grew up in Tzfas in the generation of the Arizal’s disciples and the disciples of Maran the Beis Yosef. He later moved to Damascus. He married the daughter of the renowned Rabbi Shmuel Laniado, known as ‘Baal HaKeilim’ and author of ‘Kli Yakar’, and was supported by him for ten years. His father-in-law mentions him several times in his sefer ‘Kli Paz’: "My son-in-law, the esteemed scholar, Rabbi Mordechai HaKohen."
Venice, 1615. Singular edition, printed by the author. (The sefer was only reprinted in recent years.)
