Magnificent Haggadah on Parchment

Facsimile of the Famous 1526 Prague Haggadah
New York, 1979

A large and beautiful facsimile on parchment of the 1526 Prague Haggadah.

The Prague Haggadah is the earliest printed illustrated Haggadah to have survived in its entirety and is considered one of the most beautiful and important Haggados since the advent of Hebrew printing.

In his article The Illustrated Haggadah in Print, art historian Betzalel Ruth writes about the 1526 Prague edition: "This magnificent edition… ranks among the finest works of printing in the 16th century, and it is perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing in the Hebrew printing press… The Prague Haggadah of 1526 had a significant artistic influence and served as a prototype for all the editions of illustrated Haggados for Pesach." (Areshet, Vol. 3, 1961, pp. 8-11)

Only 35 copies of this edition were printed, and this particular copy is numbered: B.

New York, 1979. It was hand-printed "for the delight of amateurs and collectors."
