Eshel Avraham

Commentary on Zohar
Singular Edition. Fürth, 1701

Kabbalistic commentary and chiddushim on Sefer HaZohar by Rabbi Mordechai Ashkenazy.

The sefer opens with an impressive title page portraying the figures of Moshe and Aharon and the war between David and Goliath. Leaves 45b-46a feature full-page kabbalistic drawings depicting the progression of the Sefiros as trees with branches.

Many of the chiddushim included in this sefer were relayed to the author by his primary teacher Rabbi Avraham Rovigo, a disciple of the Ramaz. The title ‘Eshel Avraham’ is a tribute to his venerable teacher.

The renowned kabbalist
Rabbi Avraham Rovigo (c. 1650-1714) was a leading 17th-century Italian kabbalist. He was the prime disciple of the Ramaz, and in his later years, journeyed to Jerusalem where he founded a yeshivah for the study of kabbalah.
